Kobelco has already emerged as the first choice excavator primarily due to its highly fuel-efficient engine and better productivity leading to much higher savings as well as output/earnings, says Yogesh Khurana, AGM - Market Support Department, Kobelco Construction Equipment India. Excerpts from the interview.
Tell us about the excavator range offered by Kobelco.
Kobelco believes in providing the best to the customer, be it product or support. After being the first in India to introduce the most fuel efficient Tier 3 engines on most productive machines in 2007, we are constantly working on improvements and adding features required for local needs of the market. Our machines in the 14T/20T/35T/50 and 85T categories have undergone many improvements and we will keep on adding more benefits.
The popular 20T machine is now upgraded to 21T, SK210HD Super X with several key features which places it in the leadership position. The 50T machine is also upgraded to new Avatar as the SK500HDLc to cater to mining sector, where it is fast emerging as the preferred choice on account of its higher productivity. We would like to stay ahead as technology leaders. We are also considering bringing Japanese rock- breakers to provide our customer single-window support to support their fleets with breakers.
Brief us about the unique features in Kobelco's range?
Engine: Kobelco machines are powered by latest design Hino engines complies with latest international emission norms. Common rail technology with cooled EGR with engine energy saving technology is being used to reduce the fuel consumption. Engine technology is jointly developed with Hino to optimise the fuel characteristics.
Drive train: Kobelco systems are the result of joint development with Kawasaki Precision Machinery to develop energy saving technology by minimising the pressure losses inside the control valve and the piping.
Structural stability: The structure of Kobelco machines are designed and developed for Indian application. Indigenous models are specially developed with heavy duty specification. The cast and forged components ensure strong and durable attachments. Strength of arm tip and boom foot have been boosted up, the upper frame has been structurally reinforced, with the bottom of the upper frame is redesigned and the area under cove is minimised to increase strength. Since start of our India plant, machines are working efficiently in mining, rock quarries, road work, irrigation etc.
Operator comfort and ergonomics: As per the global norms. Low noise and vibrations are not only good for the surrounding environment but also help to reduce operator fatigue. Comfort and ergonomics have been proven since its launch in India in 2007.
Filtration: Kobelco uses triple filtration up to two micron of filtering capacity in the fuel system for engines to ensure cleanliness of diesel and uses up to eight micron in hydraulic system with additional line and gauge filters in the piping.
Environment-friendliness: Being a Japanese product, they are designed as per the environment latest norms. Kobelco green machines greatly contribute to the reduction of the environmental impact and are considered a perfect marriage of functionality and attractive design. Cost economics: Apart from established most fuel efficient machines, Kobeclo excavators deliver optimum productivity leading to maximum savings. Taking an incident by a case study in rock quarry, Kobelco 14T excavators are more economical than 20T competitors` low-end models.
Machine control technologies: This is a very important parameter to bring machine under optimum performance with fuel economy. The engine is controlled by the latest version of Kobelco unique Intelligent Total Control System (ITCS), which instantly responds to rapid changes in hydraulic load to minimise wasted engine output.
Also, the standard auto idle stop feature shuts the engine down during idling to save fuel and reduce exhaust emissions.
What has Kobelco performance been like, during the last couple of years?
The top segment comprises of high-end machines like Kobelco in the high-end segment, we are at more than 20 per cent share. We are maintaining our consistent growth in the top category. Our aim obviously is to be the leader in this segment.
