Swedish equipment manufacturer Atlas Copco has strengthened its position in the mining and underground sector with the acquisition of Meyco Equipment, the Swiss sprayed-concrete specialist, from chemicals giant BASF. Atlas Copco says this acquisition fills a gap in its range of underground construction equipment. As part of BASF, the company has developed a range of both equipment and the materials used for shotcreting. Under the terms of the deal, Atlas Copco acquires Meyco's equipment business while BASF retains the materials side of the operation. Atlas Copco and BASF will now co-operate in developing new concrete-spraying technology, says Atlas Copco's underground rock excavation division president David Shellhammer.
