We offer 10 T to 50 T level jib and luffing jib tower cranes from SYM China, 5 T to 20 T level jib, and luffing jib tower cranes from Top Sky, China, and GJJ, the biggest brand of China passenger hoist and construction platforms. We also offer 32 T to 150 T alloy steel luffing cranes and gantry cranes from Finehope, a Government of China concern, says PV Ramdev, Managing Director, Everest Engineering Equipment. Excerpts from the interview.
Do you think the FZQ series of tower cranes will fare well in India?
Finehope FZQ Series anchorage luffing-jib tower cranes are a good example of advanced technology which is fast to install, given modular structure and pre-assembling in the factory.
The FZQ series is a large crane applicable for use in thermal power, hydropower, nuclear power, petroleum, chemical industry, metallurgy, high rise steel structure/pre-cast and other erection of large-scale construction projects, and especially suitable for boiler lifting in power stations, and the construction of tall buildings on narrow sites. Finehope has sold about 22 units in India, and are working at a satisfactory pace since the last five to six years.
What is the range of tower cranes on offer for various verticals?
We have an exclusive agency agreement with SYM for the sales, service and spare parts of 10 T to 50 T tower cranes. We can offer any type of tower crane, external or floor climbing (flat-top, topkit and luffing) with a capacity up to 150 T, and also proper services in time.
What are the safety features incorporated in the SYM range of tower cranes?
The most important safety feature required in a tower crane is the structural and mechanism strength. As per IS6521-Part 1, the tower cranes must be load-tested at the factory and site to 125 per cent of its rated maximum capacity. SYM is one of the rare manufacturers who perform this test; which is why we prefer their heavy tower cranes. SYM cranes are supplied with a load radius display system, which shows the lifted load, radius and percentage of moment in the operator's monitor along with other standard safety features like over-hoisting, overload, over-moment, trolley and slewing cut-off limits.
Tell us about the frequency control hoisting mechanism and integrated control systems you use.
Variable frequency drives must be used on tower cranes for smooth operation, accurate placements and to save the power consumption by about 35-40 per cent. The integration of controls are done through the latest technology and the programmable logic controller (PLC) to ensure safe, steady and trouble-free operations. Remote controls are being offered but we do not recommend them in India because of various reasons.
There is always an æinferior quality' tag of attached to a Chinese product. What is your take on this?
There are more than 500 tower crane manufacturing companies in China. If you do not have proper knowledge of tower cranes from the design, raw material, welding, quality standards, mechanisms, electricals to safety devices, and you concentrate only on price, definitely you can get a product of inferior quality, even in India. Only a few companies have this superior facility in China.
What are the core competencies and strengths of Everest Engineering?
We have expert service teams to take care of the heavy tower cranes in critical constructions like power, cement, steel, pre-cast buildings, etc, as well as special application passenger hoists. We give technical solution to these industries. We are now focusing on the professional and timely service to the tower crane and passenger hoist industry.
How do you assess the market potential for tower cranes in India?
The current conditions are very positive for tower cranes as well as passenger hoist market. Since most of the builders and contractors now opt for the latest technology and for mechanised construction, this segment will see a definite increase of 15-20 per cent this year, and 30-40 per cent increase in the next year.
Could you specify the growth potential for tower cranes for various verticals?
The growth potential of tower cranes will be driven mainly by the real estate sector and a part of the power and steel sector. The cement sector contractors are not too familiar with the application of tower cranes. In the future though, this sector has good potential. The expectations from the fertiliser and port sectors are very low.
Which capacity range of tower cranes is moving fast in India?
The fastest moving tower cranes are the 5 T and 6 T level jib models, in the real estate sector. Other verticals are not moving as fast.
Do you provide trained operators for your clients or train their operators?
We provide trained operators to our customers. If any customers have their own operators, we cross-check their knowledge and experience to match our tower crane technology. We also ensure they get proper training.
What are the services offered by Everest Engineering?
We offer tower crane and passenger hoist services like erection/dismantling, anchorage, etc, with proper method statements and risk assessment. We also offer anti-collision systems for tower cranes.
What are the current market trends as far as tower crane rentals are concerned?
Tower crane rentals have a high potential and is an upcoming segment in India. Many big corporates have already turned towards rentals and the future of this segment is very bright.
Is there any new model expected for any specific vertical?
GJJ has a new model of passenger hoists for high-rise buildings, which can be fitted inside the lift shaft with floor selector system. This is ideal for congested building sites in cities like Mumbai and other bustling metros.
