We have moved the Dynapac technology and expertise from Europe to India for the benefit of Indian customers. We are now producing the 11 T class soil compactor CA250 and the 9 T class asphalt compactor CC384HF here in Nashik. The CA250 and CC384HF are Dynapac's international models, produced in Dynapac's Sweden plant and launched in India with full features. In fact, we also export CA250 and CC384HF to the Middles East, Africa and southeast Asia from our Nashik plant. We compete only in the premium segment and have a good market share there, says Nitin Lall, General Manager, Atlas Copco Construction Technique. Excerpts from the interview.
What is the overall market for soil compaction equipment?
The overall market size in 2012 was approximately 2,000 units. There has been a dip of around10-12 per cent.
What are the latest technologies incorporated in Dyanpac's range of asphalt and soil compactors?
Advanced hydraulics and controls and the liquid cooled engine, used in both Dynapac soil and asphalt compactor for fuel efficiency, are two innovations. The Dynapac machine has a optimum vibration frequency for soil compaction and in the asphalt compactor, high frequency is used to achieve compaction much faster. All Dynapac machines are equipped with the highest safety standard and designed for easy maintenance.
To what extent do the varying mix, structural design and the grade of asphalt binder determine the quality of compaction achieved?
All the mixes have their own compaction properties and you cannot achieve 98 per cent density in all the mix. Through the intelligent compaction system, it`s possible to know the ground conditions, whether there is rock or water below and also the maximum compaction achieved in a particular mix. If it is not 98 per cent, then you can take corrective action in your mix to achieve your desired density level.
Which range, in terms of tonnage and horsepower is the fastest- moving in India?
The 10 T class compactor with approximately 100 engine horsepower is suitable for the soil, and the 9T class asphalt compactor is suitable for asphalt compaction as per the mix design set by the Indian Road Congress (IRC).
Tell us about the range offered by Dynapac and its present market share.
At Atlas Copco Dynapac, we offer a complete range of soil and asphalt compaction, paver finishers and cold milling machines. These include soil compactors from 4 T to 27 T, asphalt compactors from 1.5 T to 18 T, paver finishers from working width of 1.8 m to 16 m, pneumatic tyre rollers from 6T to 27 T with ballast.
All Dynapac machine comes with lowest operating cost. In the CA250, the average fuel consumption is at least 20 per cent lower compared to the same class of machine and in the asphalt compactor CC384HF fuel consumption is almost half, as compared to the same class of machines.
Apart from savings in fuel, all Dynapac machines come with the most advanced hydraulic system resulting in lowest volume of hydraulic oil refill with longest change interval compared to the same class of machines. It's a very reliable trouble-free machine, resulting in very low spare parts usage. Because of its advanced hydraulics and robust structure, it is unmatched compaction performance and efficiency that is delivered in Dynapac compactors. All these Dynapac machines are supported by a very extensive dealers' network.
From J&K to Kanyakumari or Arunachal to Jamnagar, we have dealers to take care of our customers. A lot of our customer's work sites are far away from their offices, like, a customer in Rajkot may expect his machine to be serviced at his project site in Sri Nagar or a customer in Mumbai will expect his machine to be serviced in Arunachal. Could you also tell us about the latest trends in surface finishing applications?
Using a pneumatic tyre roller after the vibratory asphalt roller is a must to build a good asphalt road. Presently, we are marketing CP142 and CP274 in India.
