We are offering boom pumps starting from 20 m class up to 43 m class. In future, based on the customer need and availability of suitable truck chassis, we will offer boom pumps with a reach of more than 43 m, says Sudhakar Waggh, Country Manager, Aquarius Engineers. Excerpts from the interview.
How fuel/energy-efficient is Aquarius Engineers' concrete pumps? Could you elaborate on the design features?
We are very focused on fuel-efficient concrete pumps. We are using the latest technology hydraulic pumps with pressure, flow and torque regulator, which ensures that the engine is not overloaded; this regulator also controls the load on the engine based on the system demand. This helps in reduced fuel consumption of the engine. We also offer a wide variety in concrete pumps which gives scope to the customer to select the right model to suit them.
How has Aquarius Engineers addressed the issue of high noise levels while the pumps are in operation?
We are developing concrete pumps which can be operated in a totally closed-door condition. The development work is in progress. You will find the noise levels comparatively reduced in the new pumps we introduced at bC India recently. We also promote electrically driven concrete pumps which have very low noise levels.
How have you addressed the problem of acquiring skilled technicians and operators for these products?
To ensure the availability of trained technicians and operators, we conduct operation and maintenance trainings at an all-India level. We also give training to customers' staff at their sites. We believe that sharing of knowledge is the best remedy for better customer support.
Tell us about your strength in after sales and service.
Whenever there is recruitment of new staff, we ensure that the person recruited is fully trained to handle our products. We also conduct basic and advanced trainings to our regular staff on a periodic basis. We ensure that well-trained and experienced staff are handling the troubleshooting equipment. We also ensure that our services are available in the shortest possible time to the customer. For this, we have more than 15 regional/area offices across the country.
We also see to it that trained operators are available to the customer to run the new machines from commissioning stage itself. We suggest three or four operators to our customers, from which our customers choose the operator to suit their requirement. This helps both the manufacturer as well as the customer, as the trained operator handles and knows the machine well and many small complaints can be attended by the operator himself.
Is there any new model on the anvil?
At the recent bC India, we launched many new models across the product range which were well appreciated by our existing and prospective customers.
To what extent has the concrete industry come up with pumpable concrete? Is choking of concrete pumps still a major issue?
In comparison to the past, today we are facing fewer problems related to pumpable concrete. We see an improvement in knowledge and approach of all our customers. Now the customer is well educated about the required concrete quality standards.
What is the range of truck-mounted boom pumps offered by Aquarius?
In the present scenario, we are offering the boom pumps starting from 20 m class up to 43 m class. In future, based on customer need and availability of suitable truck chassis, we will offer boom pumps with a reach of more than 43 m. Boom pumps are a must and very useful for the projects like bridges, industrial application, Metro, monorail, in RMC fleet, power plants, flyovers, commercial projects, etc. Boom pump helps our customers to complete the project in the fastest possible time.
Some unique features are standardisation of moving items, easy availability of spares, optional radio remote for operator comfort, convenience and many more built-in features.
What is the working range for boom placers? What are the advantages of using these machines?
We have already supplied many boom pumps in the range of 20 m and 43 m class. The advantages of using the boom pump are as follows:
• Can handle large volume of concrete in less time
• Less manpower requirement to handle the concrete pump and placement
• Very low setting time
• Pipeline on articulated boom avoids the direct contact of boom with the structure.
• Can handle many sites at different locations in a single day
• Very useful for the column casting
• Must for projects with tight completion schedule
How do you assess the recent budget and its positive implications for the CE sector?
Overall spending plan of the government is expected to give a push to the CE sector but more important is that the government brings in long-pending reforms of direct tax code and GST. Faster clearance and availability of funds for the projects are more important at this point of time.
Will you be benefited from the 15 per cent exemption on investment on plant and machinery as announced in the Union Budget?
This benefit is available only if a company invests Rs 1 billion or more in new plant and machinery in the period of two years beginning 1 April 2013. Since the minimum limit is Rs 1 billion, it is of no benefit to SMEs like us. The government should have given this benefit without putting any limit on investments, which would have really benefited a large number of manufacturers.
