IN view of the problems faced by the economy currently, Off-Highway Research forecasts the market for construction equipment (CE) will remain flat in 2013, but expects it to grow in the subsequent years to peak at over 100,000 units by 2017. In backhoe loaders, the demand should increase from 32,416 units in 2012 to nearly 38,000 units in the next five years. Off-Highway research forecasts the wheeled loader demand to grow to 4,500 units and motor graders to around 850 units by 2017. In mini-excavator segment, Off-Highway Research forecasts sales of 450 units in 2013, which are expected to grow annually by 18 22 per cent, and expand to 1,000 units by 2017. Reviewing past trends, the total construction equipment industry which was only 12,982 units in 2003, expanded to 50,656 units in 2007, and 72,164 units in 2011.
