Konecranes, the world leader in lifting industry, has recently bagged a contract from Hindalco to supply a soaking pit crane for its can body stock manufacturing plant at Hirakud. This crane is double-girder rigid mast EOT crane designed for soaking pit furnace applications with maximum capacity of slab 17 tonne. Konecranes has specially designed this crane for putting aluminium slabs in soaking pits and to lift it out to be placed in to a down-ender for further hot rolling process. This is a very crucial parameter for a soaking pit crane to identify the different positions in a single soaking pit to place the slabs exactly where it is needed. Konecranes soaking pit crane is equipped with advanced PLC-based auto positioning systems which helps the soaking pit crane operator to pick up the slab from ground and place it at the exact location of soaking pit communicated by the soaking pit control room operator. The crane components are specially designed to withstand the extreme working conditions and high temperature near furnaces. According to Saeesh Nevrekar, General Manager, Konecranes India, the company has been successful globally to develop different kind of advanced mast cranes for critical aluminium plant applications due to its 80 years of rich experience in crane building.
