Titagarh Wagons Ltd (TWL) is set to foray into tractor manufacturing. According to a company source, the subsidiary of TWL, Titagarh Agrico, has developed three prototypes. To be produced at the Bharatpur plant of Cimmco, another TWL subsidiary, the initial capacity will be 20,000 units per year. Some of the protos are currently undergoing trials at the Central Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institute at Budhni in Madhya Pradesh while the company is engaged in production trials. TWL is in discussions
with engine makers and other component manufacturers as it plans to offer tractors in the 39 hp and 60 hp range. TWL´s foray into tractors comes against the backdrop of healthy performance by tractors during the last financial year.
