Energias de Portugal (EDP) has been building the Baixo Sabor hydroelectric plant in the municipality of Torre de Moncorvo, and Linden Comansa's official distributor in Portugal, IBERGRU, has supplied 15 flat-top tower cranes (TCs) with maximum load in a range between 5 and 48 tonne. The main plant, located upstream, is a double-curvature dam, with a height of 123 m and width of 505 m. Four tower cranes are being employed in its construction, all of Linden Comansa make, model 10LC140s, with maximum load capacity of 8 tonne. Next to the upstream station, a LC5211 5t tower crane is constructing a building that will be part of the administrative facilities of the dam, and two 5LC5010 with maximum load of 5-tonne work as service cranes in the yards that serve as warehouse and workshop on the jobsite.
The secondary plant, of the gravity type, located downstream, closer to the riverÆs mouth, with a height of 45 m and a width of 315 m. The five largest tower cranes working on this project are two 21LC750, with up to 48 tonne capacity, and three 21LC550 with maximum load capacity of 18 tonnes. Another 5LC5010, with a maximum load of 5 tonne, is working as service crane, helping to manage the machinery and materials required on the site.
