GVR partners with Metso to give a facelift to the road infrastructure in the south, a true example of a mutually trusted partnership and collaboration, writes Niraj Srivastava.
GVR took a bold decision to take onus for the growth in the southern corridor of the country. In this journey to give a facelift to the road infrastructure in the south, GVR partnered Metso, and is banking on Metso’s solutions that embrace the latest technology and an extensive service offering. The performance of the plants has increased tremendously and quality is top class. The GVR story is a true example of a mutually trusted partnership and collaboration. Proactive response by the Metso service teams is winning GVR’s trust each day.
The ORR (Outer Ring Road) is currently one of the most prestigious infrastructure projects in the country and has given a platform for infrastructure companies to grow to the next level. Looking at the opportunities in the infrastructure sector in the country, GVR has carefully and strategically nurtured a well-diversified portfolio of projects across the country. “We believe that infrastructure projects are crucial to a country’s development, and hence quality of development becomes un-compromisable. Quality of our projects has been guiding our organic growth and will continue to do so,” says KLM Mohan Rao, Director - Asset Management Group, GVR Infrastructure Projects.
It is true that the customer industries are evolving and in order to keep pace with their growth, they look out for partners who can not only support them in their journey but also guide them and continue to add considerable and measurable value to their operations. GVR found this and much more in its partnership with Metso for the ORR project.
“I distinctly remember the day when we first met Sunil Kumar, Deputy Manager, Sales, Construction, Metso India and discussed the possibilities for collaboration way back in 2008. The team is very humble and it was interesting to see how Metso also considered its business as a mission for the country’s development. I could see synergies there. But that is just one part. The latest technology and a promise to extend extensive service support were the key for our association with Metso. And I can proudly say today, that they have proved it over and over again”, says KLK Mohan.
“Metso is our preferred technology and equipment provider. Their technology produces top quality end products for us and we have experienced massive improvement in the capacity of output from the plant. But what really has made the difference to our operations is the proactiveness of the service team. And that clearly sets Metso apart from other players,” KLM Mohan adds further. Located in Ranga Reddy District in Hyderabad, the plants have a daily production of over 5,000-6,000 metric tonne.
The approximate production from Metso plants are:
Plant 1 – 545,013 metric tonne (approx)Plant 2 – 320,397 metric tonne (approx)
Metso’s partnership with GVR has been for the ORR project in more than just one way. Metso has not only supplied equipment but has also provided an extensive service support for the upkeep of the plant.
“My praises for Metso service team and the support they have extended to us. The nucleus of our growth is changing and so are the expectations from our service partners. Metso’s unmatched 24/7 response times and the problem solving approach has promised us a lifetime of reliability. I must add they are very proactive with their responses and they solved the problems within a few days. We could achieve our target of 100,000 tonne from the two plants despite a few breakdowns during the normal course of business,” says Prabhakar Naidu, Plant Manager, GVR Infra Projects.
Says Venugopal, Plant Engineer, GVR Infra Projects, “Special attention is given to ensure that there are no delays in supply of wear parts to the sites, irrespective of site locations. They even store a few parts on site so that delays can be avoided as much as possible.” Metso has been able to develop trust and credibility for its services with GVR based on a true day-to-day partnership. GVR management team is focused and aim at working together, nurturing the collaborative culture not just within GVR but with extending the same with their partners. GVR benefits from the best practice sharing and service innovations from Metso that drive performance for GVR.
During the course of crushing aggregate for the ORR project, there were a few occasions where the plant had experienced break downs. But Metso in collaboration with GVR team was quick to identify and rectify the problems and bring production back on track. “We encountered a few problems during the initial phases of operations. But what was impressive and kept us going with Metso was, the detailing and the logical approach to problem solving by the service team. The service engineers are prompt. These service engineers are true brand ambassadors for Metso”, says Bhaskar Rao, GM (Asset Management), GVR Infra Projects.
Health, safety and environment issues are gaining prominence and as a socially responsible corporate, GVR ensures that topmost standards are maintained in its operations. Bhaskar Rao adds, “The inbuilt safety features in Metso plants are excellent and I have experienced that extra care is taken by the service team while installing the safety devices in the plants and crushers to avoid accidents as much as possible. The team also keeps updating our site staff and the plant managers on safety, health and environmental issues and that is really what I would call going an extra-mile-with-the-service attitude. “
KLM Mohan Rao claims, “Metso actions and responses are not only proactive but at the start are defined by their customer. The idle hours of the crusher are also very less, a maximum half-an-hour, is taken to repair an equipment. Considerable economies on our operational costs are being experienced and that is happy news.”
“Service is a very important aspect of any relation between the seller and the customer. Metso has made sure that not only their equipment perform well, but also the performance is backed by prompt services and apt solutions on site. The overall service offerings actually enhance the equipment performance and probably more critical than the equipment itself”, says KLM Mohan. Backed by proficient service offerings and cutting edge equipment technology, Metso is all geared to march along GVR to reach its mission for the nation’s infrastructure development and once completed, it would be one of the fastest projects in the whole ORR stretch.
